Codes for atrial septectomy or septostomy, 92992 (transvenous method, balloon [eg, Rashkind type] [includes cardiac catheterization]) and 92993 (blade method), have been deleted from Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) in 2021. Do not report 92992 or 92993 for services on and after January 1, 2021.

New code 33741 has been created to better describe and provide for reporting of transcatheter atrial septostomy (TAS) (by any method) for congenital cardiac anomalies. Additionally, codes 33745 and 33746 are added for reporting transcatheter intracardiac shunt (TIS) for congenital cardiac anomalies. Codes 33741, 33745, 33746 are valid for reporting services on and after January 1, 2021. Total facility relative value units (RVUs) for the new codes are 22.42 for 33741, 31.53 for 33745, and 12.41 for 33746.
