New International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) diagnosis codes have been added to the April 1, 2022, release of code set revisions to accommodate reporting of immunization status specific to immunization against the virus that causes COVID-19. An updated ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting has also been released. Here’s what you should know about reporting the new codes.

Category Z28 codes are status codes that are reported when the patient’s status may affect the course of treatment and its outcome. It is not necessary to report a status code when the status has no effect on patient management.
