The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes for case-management services (99361–99373) include codes for telephone calls. Case-management telephone calls involving simple, intermediate, or complex decision making are described by CPT codes 99371, 99372, and 99373, respectively. These codes can be used to report results, to adjust therapy, or for initial patient management or triage that requires clinical decision making. Telephone management does not necessarily involve the patient or parent; telephone codes also can be used for calls that involve the management or coordination of the patient’s health care with other health care professionals, including other physicians, nurses, physical therapists, social workers, or health care providers caring for a child at home or in another care setting.
