The American Medical Association (AMA) releases new Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) vaccine product codes electronically on July 1 and January 1 each year. There is a 6-month implementation period from the initial date of release (ie, codes released on July 1 are eligible for use on January 1; codes released on January 1 are eligible for use on July 1). The electronic release of these new vaccine product codes allows reporting of the new products prior to the annual publication of the CPT manual. Information on the Web site will include the dates of release, implementation, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.
