As of January 1, 2008, there will be a new Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) Category III code for reporting quantifiable computer probability assessment.

(Note: Do not report 0185T in conjunction with 99090.)

The code was developed to allow tracking of these assessments, hopefully decreasing the number of unnecessary diagnostic imaging tests.

CPT code 0185T can be applied to any validated method that produces an accurate, peer-reviewed, discrete probability of the disease of concern. These probability tools are any validated method, launched from a computer, that yields a discrete numeric probability of disease used to assist with the decision to order or not to order a diagnostic test for various diseases. Examples of these procedures include attribute matching model PREtestConsultACS or PREtestConsultPE for acute coronary syndrome or pulmonary embolism, respectively; regression equation from Kharbanda for appendicitis in pediatric patients; logistic regression equation for bacteremia in pediatric patients presenting with a...
