Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes 98960–98962 may be reported when education and training for patient self-management services are provided by qualified nonphysician health care professionals (as defined by a given state's scope of practice laws) for the purpose of teaching patients how to self-manage their illness(es) or condition(s) or delay disease comorbidity(ies) in conjunction with the professional health care team.
Note: When the services are provided by a qualified nonphysician health care professional in your office, you may need to negotiate with payers for coverage of the services. In many cases payers will recognize services when they realize the overall cost savings (eg, decrease in physician or emergency department visits, decreased hospital care).
CPT code 99078 (physician educational services rendered to patients in a group setting) is reported as described in Table 2.
