How will you report your services in each of these scenarios?
In scenarios 1 and 2 you have been requested by another physician to provide standby services that involved prolonged physician attendance without direct (face-to-face) contact during that period.
For scenario 1, report Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes
For scenario 2, report CPT codes
Note:Code 99360 is assigned 1.79 relative value units under the 2011 Medicare Resource-Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS). However, Medicare considers the service non-covered. Check with your Medicaid program and commercial payers for payment policies. If payers deem the service non-covered, make sure you are able to bill for services provided.
In scenario 3, services were provided because of a hospital mandate, not at the request of another physician. Therefore, report CPT code 99026 (hospital-mandated on-call service; in hospital, each hour).
Note:There are no assigned relative values under the 2011 Medicare RBRVS for codes 99026...
