The American Medical Association (AMA) has responded to concerns about the closed nature of meetings of the AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) with a new policy to publicly post minutes and the RUC vote count on the AMA Web site. The minutes and vote count for each CPT code considered by the RUC in each annual cycle will be posted after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posts its final rule for the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule each November. Minutes have previously been publicly available only through subscription to the AMA RBRVS Data Manager product. Interested parties may now view the minutes and the RUC vote count at www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/physician-resources/solutions-managing-your-practice/coding-billing-insurance/the-resource-based-relative-value-scale/ruc-minutes-votes.page.
