Nutrition: Food Connects Us

Please visit the First 1,000 Days Knowledge Center throughout the month of March as we recognize National Nutrition Month and its theme “Food Connects Us”. The resources below highlight the important factors involved in child nutrition during the first 1,000 days, and provide guidance on best practices.

Throughout March, the First 1,000 Days Knowledge Center is adding new nutrition-focused content and features to the site, and highlighting existing great resources.

AAP Breastfeeding Resources

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for approximately 6 months after birth. Furthermore, the AAP supports continued breastfeeding, along with appropriate complementary foods introduced at about 6 months, as long as mutually desired by mother and child for 2 years or beyond.

Below are AAP resources regarding this crucial source of nutrition during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life.

During the month of March, all Question of the Week quizzes will focus on nutrition content. For anyone who chooses to provide their name when taking the quizzes, a leaderboard will be posted to the website listing top scores throughout the month.
