Pediatric hospital medicine (PHM) is the newest subspecialty emerging under pediatrics. Previous studies have noted rapid growth in recent years and describe a well-established and diverse scope/breadth of practice in PHM.1,2 Specifically, a 2024 PHM Workforce Study noted that 45.2% of pediatric hospitalists at university-based settings and 75.8% pediatric hospitalists at community-based settings provided service time to newborn nursery.2 However, the full scope of practice and characteristics of this newborn care workforce within PHM has not been well defined.
