Hospital Pediatrics Overview
Mission: Dedicated to the health and well-being of all children in the hospital setting.
Hospital Pediatrics is an official, peer-reviewed journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics. It was established 2011 as the first journal for the field of pediatric hospital medicine. Hospital Pediatrics publishes original research and other article types that educate and inform readers of quality, safety, research, and clinical practice advancements relevant to the field. Hospital Pediatrics is indexed by Medline.
Hospital Pediatrics is published in 12 print and online issues per year. Hospital Pediatrics publishes original research articles, reviews (with a preference for systematic reviews), quality improvement reports, solicited commentaries, and perspectives pieces on topics relevant to the care of hospitalized children. The vast majority of each issue contains original scholarly material.
The editor of Hospital Pediatrics is Patrick W. Brady, MD, MSc, Interim Co-Director, Research Director, and Attending Physician, Division of Hospital Medicine, Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Professor, University of Cincinnati Department of Pediatrics. The deputy editor is Karen Wilson, MD, MPH, Professor of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Vice-Chair for Clinical and Translational Research, Department of Pediatrics, Medical Director, Hub Liaison Team, Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, University of Rochester School of Medicine.
History
On July 1, 2011, the AAP published the first issue of Hospital Pediatrics. In 2012 and 2013 the title grew to a quarterly publication, and on November 6, 2013, it was PubMed indexed. Hospital Pediatrics became a bimonthly publication in 2014, and 1 year later it began publishing on its current monthly schedule. In 2016-2019 the journal saw steady growth in submissions, and in 2020, 2021 and 2022, Hospital Pediatrics received more than 500 original submissions.
On July 1, 2021, Shawn Ralston, MD, MA, MS, completed her 10-year tenure as Editor in Chief of Hospital Pediatrics. Dr Patrick Brady, who had served as an Editorial Board member since 2013, was named her successor, saying, "It is such a privilege to lead the journal into its second decade on the amazing trajectory Dr Ralston has set us."
The special 10-year anniversary edition of Hospital Pediatrics featured commentaries by Drs Ralston and Brady on the journal's first decade and its next 10 years to come.

In August 2024, Hospital Pediatrics was selected for inclusion in the Web of Science in the Emerging Sources Citation Index and will receive an Impact Factor score in the near future.
