The videos available in the Video Corner article section of NeoReviews are mainly educational and provide a rich step-by-step understanding of common procedures and information on NICU guidelines. Recently, a video quality improvement (QI) project aimed at reduction of bronchopulmonary dysplasia rates in infants born less than 32 weeks’ gestation utilized the video resources highlighted in the Video Corner article, Implementation of Bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure in the Delivery Room and NICU along with other resources. The results of this QI project were spectacular. Initiation of bubble continuous positive airway pressure (b CPAP) in the preterm infants born at less than 32 weeks’ gestation increased from a baseline of 0% to 80% and the use of invasive ventilation in the delivery room declined from 100% to 20%. The number of babies breathing room air increased from 70% to 100%.
The quality improvement project that utilized the content published in the Video Corner article section was submitted to the Vermont Oxford Network and the lead author Dr. Anjali Anders was awarded the Vermont Oxford Network (VON) Scholar award in 2022.
As the VON website states, “AAP/VON Scholar Awards are awarded to five fellows and early career neonatologists in partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Neonatal Perinatal Medicine (SoNPM). The award recognizes future leaders in newborn care who exemplify dedication to data-driven quality improvement in the care of infants and families”. Congrats to Dr. Anders and everyone who worked on the video and article.
