You may have noticed, either on the most recent print issues of Pediatrics, or on the Pediatrics website, that there’s an unobtrusive gold circle with a “75”, just below the Pediatrics logo. What does that gold “75” mean?
It means that Pediatrics turns 75-years-old this year! That’s an exciting milestone for the most cited journal in our field (Journal Impact Factor, Journal Citation Reports, Clarivate Analytics, 2022). It seems only appropriate that we celebrate and commemorate this important milestone. So what can you expect to see this year from Pediatrics?
First, check out the special Pediatrics 75th anniversary webpage. You can view the introductory video from Dr. Lewis First, the Editor in Chief of Pediatrics, and see how our journal has grown in readership, submissions, and citations.
You will want to bookmark that page, and come to it periodically, as we will be adding content throughout the year. In particular, we will be reflecting on the past 75 years and how the science of pediatric practice – and with it, the journal - have evolved and continue to evolve. This will include:
- Retrospectives from more than 70 AAP sections, councils, and committees about the most impactful Pediatrics articles pertaining to their specific area
- Articles that demonstrate how the science and evidence base have evolved over the past 75 years
- Observations about editorial changes that reflect important shifts in how disparities and minoritized groups are presented within the journal
- Reflections from Pediatrics editorial board members and AAP members about how Pediatrics has changed the way they practice
- Exclusive Pediatrics merchandise to show off at your next journal club meeting
In addition to bookmarking the page, keep a look out for alerts from the AAP and Pediatrics- in emails, listservs, social media postings, and blogs - about new content. We are confident that you will not want to miss any of these anniversary features and highlights in the upcoming year!!
And what is a celebration without at least one party? Look for Pediatrics’ AAP Celebration booths in the exhibit halls at the Pediatric Academic Societies meeting (May 2023, in Washington DC) and the AAP National Conference & Exhibition (October 2023, also in Washington DC)!
We invite you to celebrate with us this year. It is of course an important milestone for Pediatrics, but it is also important for us to reflect on all of the many clinical, public health, research, and advocacy achievements that our journal has helped foster over the past 75 years and will continue to do for years to come.
Cheers!
