Open access is a publishing model where research findings are published online, permanently free to read. Readers from around the globe can access the content, then further disseminate it within their networks or build off the content in their own research studies.
Open access research is readily discoverable online and is often cited by a more diverse group of readers than research published behind paywalls. Equitable access to scientific findings is at the very heart of this publishing model, and many governments and funding bodies now require open access publishing.
Knowing that the field of pediatrics would benefit from an open access outlet, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is thrilled to offer a new, fully open access journal to meet this need: Pediatrics Open Science. The mission of the journal is to improve the health of children and families by making pediatric research findings and perspectives accessible worldwide. Pediatrics Open Science has strictly maintained editorial standards, and everything published in the journal will undergo rigorous peer review.
As editor in chief of the journal, I look forward to growing Pediatrics Open Science and working with the pediatric community to meet their information needs.
