What is your role with Pediatrics Open Science, the new open access journal from the American Academy of Pediatrics?

What made you want to pursue a leadership role in journal publishing?
It’s important to support scholarship in pediatrics in all forms using a variety of rigorous methods, whether it be discovery research, innovations, or scholarship in health professions education.
What are your primary research interests?
To date, our teams have focused on mixed methods research aimed at understanding the how and the why behind health and educational inequities to design effective interventions.
What excites you about the field of pediatrics?
It is an honor to work with children and their families.
Do you have any words of wisdom for future researchers?
Follow your passions to answer questions that are important to you. And don’t be shy to ask for guidance from a diverse group of mentors.
Why do you think open access is important for the future of pediatric research?
Improving equity in access to important information.
What does a typical day in your work week look like?
With my roles as an associate dean focused on education scholarship, program evaluation, and quality improvement as well as a clinician scientist, each day is different. That is what I love about my work. I am constantly learning and discovering new things while working with amazing colleagues.
