We are learning more and more about the potential risks of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) through studies appearing in peer-reviewed journals including ours. In fact, we have compiled an ongoing e-cigarettes collection is such studies for you to review that is updated on an ongoing basis as we publish new studies about this topic. This week we release a study by McMillen et al. (10.1542/peds.2018-0260) who use a national longitudinal survey of teenagers and identify their preferences in regard to the types of e-cigarette products they prefer to use. Those who were users of e-cigarettes in the past 30 days preferred rechargeable and refillable devices more than disposable and non-refillables. They also preferred flavored types of e-cigarettes over non-flavored products. Many also use an open system in which the potential for nicotine and other chemical exposure is less controlled. This study prompts us to ask more detailed questions about the type of e-cigarettes that teens are using. There is a lot of useful, yet concerning information to be gleaned from this study, so link to it and learn more.
