AAP Journals Open Access Policies

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is committed to making research widely and immediately accessible. Our open access policies are designed to align with industry mandates—including those from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cOAlition S, "Plan S"—ensuring that all authors, especially those with federal or international funding, can publish and share their work without unnecessary barriers.

The AAP supports multiple open access pathways, allowing authors to choose the option that best fits their needs and funding requirements. Pediatrics and Hospital Pediatrics are subscription journals (Hybrid Open Access) and Pediatrics Open Science is the Gold OA journal.

The updated policies below enable immediate public access for US federally funded research for repository deposits to PubMed Central or CDC Stacks as required.

Non federally funded authors/papers can also select Gold Open Access for broader reuse rights and must request upon submission.

For detailed OA guidance, please review our open access policies and fees in the below chart. For more information on using a Creative Commons license: https://creativecommons.org/
