• Palpable cervical, occipital, and inguinal lymph nodes are common in healthy children.

  • Important to distinguish reactive from infiltrative and localized from generalized adenopathy

  • Knowing which group of lymph nodes drains which area(s) of the body helps direct diagnostic evaluation.

  • Character of enlarged node(s) also helps guide evaluation: tenderness, warmth, fluctuance, hardness, fixation.
