Recently both lay (Time Magazine, October 30, 1964) and medical (Medical Tribune, November 11, 1964) news media have reported the use of saturated solutions of magnesium sulfate enemas as therapy for infants with the respiratory distress syndrome. In the past two weeks I am personally aware of three infants in our community where the possibility of use of such treatment has been mentioned by either parents and/or physicians. I imagine that our experience has been duplicated by many pediatricians in other areas.
