Several of the points raised by Drs. Matthews and Doershuk deserve further comment.

The experimental model used for our experiments was designed to prevent the dispersion of a radioactive aerosol, and as such did not permit convective back mixing with dry room air. The degree of mixing described by Drs. Matthews and Doershuk in the clinical situation situation would be almost completely convective; thus, the different diffusion co-efficients of oxygen and water vapor would be of almost no significance, we believe.
