I appreciate Dr. Nader and Dr. Allmond's comments and share their apparent distaste for the voguish label of "minimal brain damage." Certainly "soft" neurologic signs do not answer the question of the child's need for special education technique. Too often there is no neuroanatomic correlation in patients with major gross motor and intellectual abnormalities. On the other hand, the presence of significant numbers of "soft" signs does indicate neurologic disorganization which may pave the way toward identifying the child's needs for special and particular assistance or concessions.
