This book is primarily addressed to the teacher of intellectually subnormal children; the author's purpose is to offer a methodical approach of teaching the mentally handicapped. As emphasized in the title, "observing" is the key word throughout the book, reflecting one of the author's principal educational concepts. Through skillful observation, one can recognize both the limitations of the mentally retarded as well as his strengths, which then permits one to understand the child and his handicap.
