I recently attended the Chicago meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics, both as a companion to my husband and as a non-member physician. On the day following our arrival, we were quite amazed to find two large floral arrangements in our room, "from the Gerber baby." This initial feeling of amazement soon became a compound of humiliation and disgust; humiliation that the favors of doctors should be solicited in this way, disgust that the temendous amount of money wasted on such activities should be spreading from the drug industry to other industries as well, and in particular to producers of food for babies!
