Porter et al.1 have confirmed the observation that some growth hormone-deficient patients demonstrate hypothyroidism after initiation of growth hormone therapy.2 They further demonstrated that "TSH response to TRH is diminished following GH administration." The two possible mechanisms they suggested for this diminished TSH response were (1) direct inhibition of the response of the thyrotropin to TRH, or (2) GH potentiation of the effect of T4.

We should add still another possible mechanism. Burgus et al.3 and Brazeau et al.4
