It is not clear to me why the commentary by Burger and Guthrie1 entitled "Why Circumcision?" appeared in the Experience and Reason section. They did not provide their experience and, unfortunately, their reasoning raised some dubious arguments. The question of the relationship between uncircumcised males and carcinoma of the cervix has been debated for many years, but the authors should be reasonable and present the facts accurately. They quote Aitken-Swan and Baird2 as supporting the concept that carcinoma of the cervix has an increased incidence in women whose husbands were not circumcised.
