The Committee on Hospital Care is entirely in sympathy with the concerns expressed by Dr Van Gelder as they pertain to difficulty adjusting to any proposed new system. Such sentiments were expressed in the statement on SI.

Over the years we have become accustomed to a "non system" of units in medicine which, in reality, is nonsensical and chaotic. It developed piecemeal and with little overall planning or logic. As a result, a stupifying number of units must be memorized.
