The article by Bachrach et al,1 on vitamin D deficiency rickets (Pediatrics 64:871, 1979) presents interesting data expanding the number of reported recent cases of vitamin D deficiency rickets in breast-fed infants. Of particular interest are the large number of cases of varying degrees of severity in a community where concerned parents are committed to natural methods of feeding.

These cases are similar to two children I reported in 1977.2 These were two cases of vitamin D deficiency rickets in breast-fed infants who were not receiving vitamin D supplementation as had been advised.
