In the article by Orwoll et al,1 an infant with a serum calcium of 12.4 mg/100 ml at 2 hours of age is described. The mother was reported as having primary hyperpara-thyroidism, but the urine calcium was not mentioned and she most likely had hypocalciuric hypercalcemia.

We have seen two similar infants. The 23-year-old mother had a serum calcium of 12.8 mg/100 ml and an elevated parathormone level. She underwent exploratory surgery at another hospital.
