To the Editor.—

Fricker at al (Pediatrics 1987;79:138-146) began their recent paper on heart transplantation in children by stating that heart transplantation raises medical and ethical questions. They went on to deal in great and fascinating detail with the medical questions but made no mention of the ethical ones. They did not mention whether their work was considered experimental or whether their proposal to attempt heart transplantation in children was submitted to an institutional review board.
