I am afraid the Red Book Committee can give no encouragement to the practice of reducing the dosage of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis vaccine. Although giving six doses might result in good immune responses, the risk of sensitization may also be increased. Moreover, if a child has the mild reactions described by Dr Rogers, why not give full doses? Low-grade fever occurs in almost half of the recipients of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis vaccine, and about half also have fretfulness.
