To the Editor.—

The commentary by Burke and McGee, "Sports Deficit Disorder," prompts me to write. These pediatricians said, "Once these children and their parents understand that it is not the child's fault that he is athletically inept, but rather that he suffers from a definite disease, then we feel that progress can be made to restore the child's damaged self-image."

Although they wrote their delightful commentary "tongue-in-cheek," in my opinion, labeling other children with the diagnosis of "attention deficit disorder" and prescribing Ritalin may also need to be ridiculed.
