When addressing the dose-response effect of inhaled budesonide n short-term growth, there are two important questions to consider: (1) Which is the relevant study design? (2) Which is the appropriate statistical test?

There is little doubt that the optimal study design is a dose-response cross-over trial which eliminates confounding factors derived from intergroup differences. When evaluating short-term growth rates derived from parallel group designs, dose-response evaluations are inappropriate because of the intergroup differences in placebo growth rates.1
