To the Editor.—

The Committee of Drugs has published a statement about retinoid therapy for severe dermatologic disorders. Although we applaud their effort to educate about the potential side effects of retinoid therapy, those of us who have had extensive experience with retinoids found some shortcomings within these well-written statements. The Committee on Drugs does not convey to pediatricians the tremendous value of these drugs, particularly of isotretinoin (Accutane, Hoffman-LaRoche) to the teenager disfigured by severe, recalcitrant cystic and noncystic acne.
