I would like to call attention to a potential problem with the use of the term "TAC gel." In the recently published study by Ernst et al,"TAC gel" refers to a topical anesthetic formulation consisting of the active ingredients tetracaine, adrenaline, and cocaine. A literature search showed that the use of this term for a topical anesthetic gel appears to originate with a paper published in 1992. However, the name already was in use for a different product.
