Pediatrics Open Science Overview

As countries and investigators around the world, including in the United States, increasingly look toward open access as a standard for disseminating knowledge and creating discussion, the role and importance of open access journals has become more critical.

What is open access? Simply put, open access is a publishing model in which every article is free to read, download, and share. The authors and their funders, rather than subscribers and readers, cover the cost of publication, thereby removing barriers that may deter potential readers and allowing equal access to knowledge for all. Open access research is readily discoverable online and is often cited by a more diverse group of readers than research published behind paywalls.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes the critical role open access journals play in making research accessible to all and is pleased to offer Pediatrics Open Science as its premier open access journal.
