Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to our health causing more than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections and 35,000 related deaths in the United States each year (see CDC antibiotic resistance website ). Antibiotic-resistant infections are becoming more common in children and adolescents. Antibiotic stewardship helps ensure that patients receive the right treatment—prescribing antibiotics only when they are needed and prescribing the right antibiotic at the correct dose, frequency, and duration.
